Backgammon has only a few variations of games to boast with and these variations are not sufficiently important in the history of Backgammon or in the actual game play except one; the Nackgammon Backgammon game variation. Learn here what this variation of Backgammon is all about, where it came from and how to play Nackgammon Backgammon.
The Nackgammon Backgammon game variation was originally developed by Nicholas Lee Ballard who is also known as Nack Ballard. Nack Ballard was the number one Backgammon champion for six consecutive years from 1999 until 2005. He is still an active Backgammon player, but also enjoys playing Scrabble and he has won several titles in the Scrabble competitive world. He is married and currently lives in San Francisco, California.
The Nackgammon Backgammon game variant is played just like the ordinary game with a few differences in placing the checkers. Instead of having only two of your checkers in the opponent's base, you have four in Nackgammon Backgammon. This also means that these extra two checkers have to be taken from other piles of checkers from the board and these two extra checkers consist of one checker taken from each of the five checker piles that can be found in your base and on the opponent's side.
The goal of the Nackgammon Backgammon game variant is to bring home all the checkers and take them out of the board as quickly as possible. The main difference as stated above in the Nackgammon Backgammon game is the since you have four checkers in the opponent's base, you need to play more strategic. The use of playing the Nackgammon Backgammon game variant is to improve your skill for the real tournaments since you need to get more checkers out of the opponent's base. This also allows more strategies to be used in the beginning of the game such as holding or blitz strategies.
Nackgammon Backgammon can be played with any of the current rules and regulations and you can also play Nackgammon Backgammon as a money game or speed game. Just like in the regular Backgammon game, you can use the doubling dice to your advantage and some Nackgammon Backgammon games start with the highest digit on the doubling cube which is 64, which means that the game has a stake of 64 points instead of just one point. This can also influence money games and other types of games that you can play with this type of Backgammon.
Nackgammon Backgammon is ideal for aspiring tournament champions because it is more difficult than the regular Backgammon and therefore it trains you better for upcoming games and events.
